Pre-requisites

Obtaining a Commercial Drivers License:

Before enrolling in commercial driver training, applicants must complete several mandatory pre-requisites.

  1. Must be at least 18 years of age.

  2. Must hold a Valid Ontario Full Class "G" License

  3. Must provide a MTO Driver Abstract (3-Year Uncertified)

  5. Must complete a MTO medical that meets the vision, hearing and medical requirements for a commercial licence.

MTO Driver's Abstract:

Applicants must provide a current Driver’s Abstract from the Ministry of Transportation (Service Ontario). This document is more than just a formality—it acts as your driving “resume” for commercial employers, showing your driving history, any infractions, and demerit points.

Type Required: 3-year uncertified copy obtained from ServiceOntario

Cost: $12.00

Maintaining a clean Driver’s Abstract is crucial for securing commercial driving opportunities. If you have any questions or concerns regarding infractions or demerit points, please contact our office for clarity.

MTO Driver's Medical:

Applicants must complete a Ministry of Transportation (MTO) Medical before beginning commercial driver training. The medical must be conducted by a licensed doctor—either your family physician or a walk-in clinic.

What it Covers:

  • Review of your overall health and medical history

  • Vision and Hearing tests

  • Cardiovascular and Respiratory assessments

  • Screening for conditions that could affect safe driving (e.g., diabetes, epilepsy, etc.)

Cost: Approximately $150.00 and up

Completing the MTO Medical ensures you meet the health standards required for commercial driving.

Please note: Costs are approximate and may vary depending on location and service provider.

Highschool Diploma:

Applicants must provide proof of a Canadian High School Diploma or higher, before beginning commercial driver training.

Type Required: If a diploma is not available, a Grade 10 Equivalency Test can be administered on site to meet the requirement

Cost: $10.00 - obtained from your educational institution

This ensures all candidates meet the minimum education standards required for commercial driving programs.

Please note: Costs are approximate and may vary depending on educational institution
